How to Style a Magical Christmas Table

Winter Foliage Table Setting

It’s that time of year again. Time to put on your fluffiest socks, grab a hot chocolate and cosy up to watch your favourite Festive film. Time to deck the halls, sing along to Christmas classics, and to start planning your Christmas food ideas. (Sprouts, or no sprouts? The age old dilemma.) This year, why not make your meal extra special, by creating the perfect sophisticated dinner table…

At Sara Miller London, our designs are heavily inspired by nature. The same goes for our Christmas table settings; we’ve used a selection of foraged flora and luxe Christmas table decorations to create a rich and magical tablescape. Here’s how you can style your own, and make Christmas Day even more magical…

Start by choosing a colour theme, and layer up your settings. Think of your tablecloth as your background colour, and work upwards, adding placemats, cutlery, plates and personalised nameplaces. We’ve chosen a deep midnight blue for our theme that perfectly brings to life our new Winter Foliage placemats.

An accent colour can be brought in to lift the theme, and add sparkle. We’ve gone for gold (we can’t help ourselves!) but silver or white would work wonderfully too. The tiny gold stars on our Celestial plates and bowls, along with moroccan tea glasses, gold baubles and cutlery, tie this look together and add an element of luxury, setting the scene for a beautiful Christmas.

Inspired by nature (as always) we’ve also added some winter foliage to our table. The key is to mix different textures, shapes and sizes. Round pine cones contrast beautifully with straight twigs, and greenery brings another colour to your Christmas table, hinting at frosty forests and secret winter grottos.

TOP TIP: Spraying a couple of pieces of your foliage gold is a very cost effective way to add impact and sparkle to your scene.

Lastly, it’s time for the finishing touches. Personalised name settings are a thoughtful and elegant way to make sure each guest at your table feels the Christmas spirit! Use the same elements that decorate your table to create miniature festive bouquets, and tie them to rolled or folded serviettes. (We recommend velvet ribbon for your ties - so luxe, and really pretty.) Add a gift tag with each guest’s name, and you’re ready for the most magical Christmas dinner you’ve ever had!

Don’t forget to share your Christmas table decoration ideas and photographs with us, we love to see how and where your creativity takes you!
